Solid Recovered Fuel
SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel) is a fuel produced by shredding and dehydrating solid waste, typically consisting of combustible components of municipal solid waste (MSW) such as;
- Biodegradable waste; food and kitchen waste, green waste, paper.
- Recyclable material; paper; glass, bottles, cans, metals, certain plastics, fabrics, clothes, etc.
- Inert waste; construction and demolition waste; dirt, rocks, debris.
- Composite wastes; waste clothing, Tetra-Packs, waste plastics such as toys, garden furniture etc.
Solid recovered fuel is a high-quality alternative to fossil fuel produced from mainly commercial and industrial waste. It can be produced to a range of specifications – such as moisture content, calorific value and chemical composition – to meet customer requirements. The recovered fuel has a high calorific value and is used in cement kilns.
Materials with high calorific value such as paper, cardboard, wood and plastics will be separated from the waste stream and used as a fuel source.
Using Turmec’s recovery is approximately 99% on the first pass which will save money, time and labour costs, as materials will only be processed once.
SRF Waste Processing Machinery
Upgrading a plant to include an SRF processing stream or Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) means further reductions in a landfill and having another source of valuable commodities. SRF can be produced to any size or specification including European Standard CEN343.
Waste-to-energy (WtE) or energy-from-waste (EfW) is the process of generating energy in the form of electricity and/or heat from the primary treatment of waste, or the processing of waste into a fuel source. WtE is a form of energy recovery. Most WtE processes generate electricity and/or heat directly through combustion, or produce a combustible fuel commodity, such as methane, methanol, ethanol. or synthetic fuels
