Central Waste Station

Location: Newcastle
Country: Australia
Project Type: Turnkey

Central Waste Station is based in the Hunter Region, NSW Australia. It serves Newcastle, Maitland, Cessnock, Singleton, Port Stephens and the Central Coast. The plant is responsible for recycling C&D and C&I waste in this region.

The Challenge

Turmec was selected to build the project from start to finish, as there was no plant in existence beforehand.

The new Central Waste Station was needed in New South Wales in order to allow the process local waste in the area, as efficiently as possible, to reduce travel and the amount of material being sent to landfill.

THE SOLUTION

Turmec carefully designed & built the custom fit, bespoke plant. This new plant would allow CWS to serve the surrounding area by processing local recyclables in New South Wales.

The machinery installed into the C&D and C&I plant included an industrial shredder, Long objects separator, Magnet, Trommel screen, Trommel oversize, Flip flop, SDS Small stone 10 – 60mm, DDS Hardcore Timber plastics, light fraction.

The operation of this system meant the plant would be able to process 45 – 50 tonnes of material per hour.

OUTCOME

Before this Central Waste Station plant was built, there was no similar service in New South Wales.

The newly built plant now covers the area, which means the waste does not have to be transported elsewhere for processing.

Over 90% of the material originally found in mixed waste is now recovered, dramatically reducing the amount sent to landfill and increasing the number of materials that can now be further recycled and sold.
